Feminist Friday ~ Tampon Tax

qIGmVQeIaHGXYqb-128x128-noPad

Starting July 1st Tax on Tampons, pads, menstrual cups etc. will come to an end in Canada! Happy Canada Day!

The New Democratic Party has been trying to eliminate the tax for over ten years now. Before the law implied that Tampons/pads were cosmetic products rather than necessities. You could go buy a bag of chocolate chips tax free but not sanitary pads. Cause that makes sense (sarcasm intended). Glad the government is on the same page now. I got to say I am pretty excited for this change along with so many Canadian women.

Thank you to all the women who worked hard to be heard by the government and made this positive change!

Happy Feminist Friday!

#ToTheGirls

Rachel Caine @rachelcaine tweeted Your gender does not define or limit you. Reach for greatness. Fight for it every day, in every way you can.

I couldn’t help but immediately share this tweet the moment I read it! I couldn’t agree more, also this doesn’t just go out to the girls out there but to everyone and whichever gender you may choose to identify with. Don’t be limited by the stereotypes and labels others may give you!

Keep your heads up!

Happy Feminist Friday! 🙂

Feminism

How do I define Feminism? I want to define what feminism means to me, mostly because to me I feel that feminism has become so much more than the fight for equal rights for women. Plus I like to call myself a feminist, but I don’t want someone to just think I am a cookie cutter version of what they think feminism is.

For me Feminism has evolved into so much more than equal rights for women. Basically I see it as Human Rights for all, no matter your race, religion, gender, age, etc. (this includes LGBTQ). And it’s that simple to me. It’s funny how simple of a concept it is to me and it baffles me how some others can not open their minds enough to treat the entirety of the human race as equal.

Kate Nash

What an amazing world this would be if we all tried a little harder. I encourage everyone to try to be less judgmental, more open minded, treat others with respect and equality.

Happy Feminist Friday Everyone!

Influential Women

Throughout history there have been many influential women who have brought great change to the world. A couple of my favourites (in no particular order) are Cleopatra, Mother Teresa, Emily Murphy, Emily Carr and Malala Yousafzai. These are just some of the women who have made a positive impact on my life. I enjoy reading about all that they went through and are going through. Each woman has so much that we can learn from.

Here are a few of my favourite quotes:

I will not be triumphed over. ~ Cleopatra

We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do. ~ Mother Teresa

Nothing ever happens by chance, Everything is pushed from behind. ~ Emily Murphy

There is something bigger than fact: the underlying spirit, all it stands for, the mood, the vastness, the wildness. ~Emily Carr

Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world. ~ Malala Yousafzai

As I go through my day to day life, I often think about all the influential people surrounding me. I definitely think there is a bit of each person that I carry along with me everywhere I go. I hope you enjoyed my favourite quotes, Happy Feminist Friday!

Quote

“Equality is not a concept. It’s not something we should be striving for. It’s a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who’s confronted with it. We need equality. Kinda now.”
― Joss Whedon

Everybody must strive for equality, no one is free until we all are free!
